Cooler temps coming Tuesday and the Chiefs’ opener will ‘feel like football weather’
So, it looks like the countdown to cooler weather can begin.
Highs on Monday are expected to be in the upper 80s, but rain in the forecast is expected to bring a cold front that will wipe away these hot days Kansas City has been experiencing. At least for awhile, said Sarah Atkins, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill.
Expect rain to move into the Kansas City metro later Tuesday morning, making for a “pretty wet Tuesday,” Atkins said. And Wednesday will be the week’s coolest day, with temperatures expected to be in the upper 50s to low 60s.
But what about Thursday, the season opener for the reigning Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs? Kickoff at Arrowhead is 7:20 p.m.
“It’s going to feel like football weather,” Atkins said.
Temperatures should be in the mid to upper 60s, and dip into the lower 60s around 7 p.m. As for rain, it’s a little too early to know for sure, Atkins said. If you are one of the lucky 16,000 or so fans in the stadium you may want to prepare some rain gear just in case, she said.
“There certainly is a chance for the game to be dry,” Atkins said. “But we can’t rule it out to be a wetter game.”
The best news may be that the 90-degree days seem to be on their way out.
“September still can have some of those warmer temperatures,” Atkins said. “But from what I can tell for the next week or so, it looks like we are probably done for now.
“Right not, it looks like pretty good fall weather.”
