Cold front to bring brief relief before heat returns for Labor Day weekend in KC

A cold front is expected to cut through the Kansas City area Thursday, bringing cooler temps for the end of the week, said FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith.

“We are going to be tracking a cold front and that arrives late morning and early afternoon turning our winds over to the north,” said Bogowith, who provides weather updates to The Star. “Temperatures should spike just after lunch in those middle-80s and then slowly begin to drop.”

It’ll feel a little muggy Thursday, but it will feel pleasant on Friday with temperatures in the 50s in the morning with highs returning to the 80s in the afternoon, she said.

“Then the heat and humidity starts to build back in for the weekend’s forecast — that holiday weekend — as we return to the middle and and upper 80s Saturday, 90 degrees for your Sunday,” Bogowith said.

Another front is expected to push its way into the metro area on Labor Day.

“The timing is still kind of up in the air,” Bogowith said. “When the rain does arrive also is up in the air, but we look to be on the warm side of that front with highs in the upper 80s.”

The best chance for showers and thunderstorms is Tuesday and lingering into Wednesday. Temperatures will also drop with highs in the 70s on Tuesday and 60s on Wednesday, she said.
