Widespread thunderstorms to sweep through Kansas City bringing rain showers to metro
Storms and thunderstorms are expected to roll through the Kansas City area Tuesday bringing widespread rain showers to the metro, said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“Weather will be a nuisance today for a wide chunk of our viewing area as we have more rains and more storms rolling in,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.
The storms will start to move into the Kansas City area over the next couple of hours. The greater chance for rain will be between mid-morning and early afternoon when widespread, off-and-on rain showers and a few embedded thunderstorms are likely, she said.
“I’m not worried about severe weather today, but I am worried about some localized flooding and flash flooding with the additional rains,” Ritter said. “Grounds are saturated.”
Highs today are expected to be in the mid-70s.
By 7 or 8 p.m. Tuesday, skies will clear and the metro area will settle into a drier pattern Wednesday which will linger into the weekend, she said. The chance for rain doesn’t return until late Sunday, which will linger into the Labor Day holiday.
