Another oppressively hot day in Kansas City before relief arrives in time for weekend

It’ll be another hot and humid day in the Kansas City on Friday with the heat index soaring to around 100 degrees, said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.

“Highs will be in the lower 90s; dew points are going to be in the 70s before we catch a break heading into the weekend,” said Ritter who provides weather updates to The Star.

“So plan accordingly and know that it’s going to be pretty oppressive outside,” she said.

The higher the dew point, the muggier it will feel. Generally, a dew point of 65 degrees or greater means there’s a lot of moisture in the air and it’s becoming oppressive, according to the National Weather Service.

A cold front is expected to move into the Kansas City area overnight Friday into Saturday morning, bringing not only cooler temperatures and lower dew points, but rain to some locations, Ritter said.

The National Weather Service in Kansas City said the strongest storms will be north of U.S. 36 highway, which cuts across northern Missouri. Later in the day, there may be some rain and storms that move into the area south of Interstate 70, with the best chances of rain south of U.S. 50 highway.

Highs over the weekend are expected to be in the lower 80s. Rain and thunderstorms are expected to kick off the week on Monday and Tuesday. The extended forecast is calling for highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s, Ritter said.
