Muggy conditions expected in Kansas City; best chance of rain comes over weekend

The humidity levels will continue to climb in Kansas City Tuesday making for a hot and muggy August day in the metro, said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.

“It’s going to be a sunny day,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. “We’re going to have a lot of heat, a little bit more humidity and highs back in the lower 90s.”

Because of the humidity, it will feel a few degrees warmer, she said. As the metro enters the second half of the week, dew points will surge making it feel a lot hotter outside.

“It’s going to be pretty sticky,” Ritter said.

The higher the dew point, the muggier it will it will feel. During the summer months, anything less than 55 degrees is considered dry and comfortable; between 55 and 65 degrees is considered “sticky” and greater than 65 degrees becomes oppressive, according to the National Weather Service.

Storms will bring rain to areas east of Kansas City on Thursday, but the metro should remain dry, Ritter said. The best chance for rain will be near Columbia and over the Lake of the Ozarks.

Rain chances for the metro area goes up over the weekend

“It’s not a slam dunk rain chance, but it’s going to cool us down a little bit and we’ll keep the unsettled weather in our forecast all the way through next Monday,” Ritter said.
