Thunderstorms return to Kansas City area as metro faces several days of heavy rain
Thunderstorms return to the Kansas City area Wednesday, bringing the possibility for periods of heavy rain the next few days, said FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will lift into Kansas City from the south along a warm front, said Bogowith, who provides weather updates to The Star.
“For the afternoon hours, things become a bit more widespread closer to the metro area,” she said. “The evening commute will likely feature some of these scattered showers and thunderstorms and at times we’re going to see some very heavy rains associated with this, even as we move on into the day on Thursday and even Friday.”
The showers and thunderstorms are expected to linger in the area through the end of the week.
“These (rain) totals are going to add up anywhere between 1 and 3-plus inches of rainfall when all is said and done by Friday afternoon and evening as this system finally clears out of here,” Bogowith said.
The weekend, however, looks to be significantly drier. There is a slim chance for rain late Saturday into Sunday.
“But notice, more importantly, temperatures are going to stay on the cool side of average in the low and middle 80s,” she said.
The average temperature for this time of year in Kansas City is 89 degrees.
