Rain chances early next week could provide a break from some ‘darn toasty weather’

Rain chances on Monday will lead to a temperature cool down after a hot, humid weekend, according to FOX4 meteorologist Joe Lauria.

The heat index is expected to be at or above 100 degrees Saturday afternoon, said Lauria, who provides weather updates to The Star.

The predicted high on Saturday is 93 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Sunday’s predicted high temperature is 92 degrees.

The weather service reminded people on Twitter to stay hydrated and, if outside, to take breaks in a cool place.

“It’s going to feel very muggy tomorrow, maybe even sultry on Sunday,” Lauria said. “That’s ahead of a cold front which is going to change our weather early next week. And, hopefully (with) some rain-cooled air on Monday, it feels a little more bearable out there.”

Lauria said temperatures should drop about 10 to 15 degrees after the weekend.

Monday’s high should be about 82 degrees, according to the weather service.

Rain chances will start to go up as soon as midnight Sunday night, Lauria said, and will run through Monday morning.

Thunderstorms, he said, will be “key to getting some heavier rains” for parts of the metro. The chances of rain will continue up until around lunchtime Monday before the chances move south.

Plus, the rain and clouds hanging around should help to cool off the area.

“I’m hopeful that our temperatures will struggle to get to 80 degrees,” Lauria said, “so maybe (we’ll have) a nice little break after a few days in a row of some pretty darn toasty weather.”

Temperatures should be in the mid-80s next week, which is just below average, he said.

Then, towards the middle and end of the week, some thunderstorm chances will start developing, Lauria said.
