Watch for possible storms early Wednesday in Kansas City area before heat takes over
Parts of the Kansas City area could wake up to thunderstorms Wednesday morning, according to FOX4 meteorologist Garry Frank.
Wednesday morning has the best chance for showers and storms, said Frank, who provides weather updates to The Star.
“I think a lot of the metro is involved in periods of very heavy rain,” Frank said, “so you may wake up to some loud thunder on early Wednesday morning with periods of showers and thunderstorms.”
Frank said the better chances of rain are in the north, but that it will move south enough to “give everybody at least a little bit of a taste” of the rain as totals trend between 1 to 2 inches.
Areas to the south may see chances for at least half an inch of rain, Frank said.
Lightning and heavy downpours will be the main threat for storms in northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri, according to the National Weather Service.
The storms are not believed to be severe, according to the weather service, but could present a “localized flooding threat,” due to the possible amount of rainfall.
Over the next few days, Frank said, temperatures will start to feel like nearly 100 degrees.
Wednesday’s high looks to be about 87 degrees, according to the weather service. On Thursday, that moves up to 91 degrees. By Friday, temperatures could hit 97 degrees.
On Saturday temperatures could hit 98 degrees, but could feel like 105 to 110 degrees with the heat index.
