Scattered storms, possibly severe, expected in Kansas City Saturday afternoon

Strong to severe storms are possible in Kansas City Saturday afternoon, FOX 4 meteorologist Garry Frank said.

“That same boundary that moved through over night fell apart, but it still sits here and we’ll see an additional one move through in the afternoon and evening,” Frank, who provides weather updates to The Star, said Saturday morning.

Kansas City can expect to see scattered storms through the afternoon.

“Widely scattered, some of us miss out completely,” he said.

The National Weather Service in Kansas City reports a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. And a severe thunderstorm watch has been issued until 8 p.m.

The heat index could reach as high as 101 degrees.

Between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday Kansas City could see winds of roughly 60 mph or more, Frank said. There could be some hail and localized flooding.

“But for the most part it will just be a brief gusty wind event,” he said.

Temperatures are expected to reach the low 90s Saturday afternoon.

Heading into Sunday, temperatures are expected to hold around 90 degrees, but it will be a “little less humid.”

Sunday will see sunny skies and highs in the upper 80s, according to the National Weather Service.

“Conditions have been pretty hot the last few days... it’s going to continue. And it’s only going to get worse,” Frank said.

Temperatures could be “pushing 100 degrees by next week.”
