Morning storms make way for triple digit heat index Wednesday in Kansas City
Early morning thunderstorms will be replaced by a triple-digit heat index Wednesday, said Fox 4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“Later on today, after a very noisy start, we’re going to end up hot and humid once again with highs near 90, the heat index, a lot higher than that,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.
Though the storms will have cleared up by mid-morning, the humidity will leave the air feeling “rather sticky” Wednesday afternoon, with the hottest indexes measuring south of Kansas City, she said.
Counties in the far south and west corners of the metro are under a heat advisory from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Ritter said. This primarily encompasses Kansas counties immediately south and west of Lawrence, as well as Missouri counties immediately south and east of Butler. Most of the metro region isn’t included in this advisory.
A heat index of about 100 degrees will be the normal over the next couple of days in Kansas City.
Aside from a slight chance of storms Thursday morning south of the city, no rain is expected heading into the weekend.
“It’s going to stay hot as well for the next couple of days,” Ritter said of the forecast through Tuesday. “We’re going to be dealing with 90s and lack of rain.”
