Hot, humid day expected in Kansas City after rain, storms move out of metro area
It will be a hot and humid day in the Kansas City area Thursday as temperatures are expected to climb into the 90s, said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
The day will get off to a soggy start before rain and storms move out of the area, said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.
“We’re going to clear things out and get hot,” Ritter said. “We’re going to be around 90, give or take a few degrees, for this afternoon. We’re also going to be dealing with a little more wind and some humidity.”
Friday morning will start out dry, but rain and thunderstorms are expected to return Friday afternoon and night. Some of the storms could be strong to severe, especially north of the metro area.
The rain is expected to linger into Saturday. Cooler temperatures with highs in the mid-80s are expected Saturday, but the heat returns with highs in the upper 80s on Sunday and 90s headed into next week, she said.
The National Weather Service in Kansas City said in its forecast that the main threats from the strong to severe thunderstorms on Friday afternoon and evening are large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain, which could bring minor flooding.
Off-and-on thunderstorms are expected to persist through the weekend, but severe weather is not likely from these storms, the weather service said.
