Heat begins to build in the Kansas City area as highs near 90 degrees likely mid-week
Afternoon highs will climb to around 90 degrees this week in Kansas City as the summer heat begins to build in the metro, according to FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“After we get the morning light, scattered rain out of here, we’re going to set ourselves up for a beautiful afternoon with ample sunshine temps topping out in the mid- to upper 80s,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.
“The heat is going to build starting today and last all the way through the upcoming week,” she said.
Highs will be in the upper 80s on Tuesday and around 90 degrees Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
“We also have a chance for storms starting Wednesday with a few scattered activity or scattered rounds Thursday into Friday,” Ritter said

The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill said severe weather may be possible with Wednesday’s thunderstorms.
The weather service also urged people to review how they will stay cool when the heat of the summer hits the area.
The first multi-day period of heat is expected Tuesday through Friday with each afternoon high reaching near 90 degrees with heat index values in the low to mid-90s.
Earlier Monday, the weather service tweeted out “Welcome to climatological Summer KC!!”
This follows what was a typical spring in Kansas City.
“For those of you who asked for us to not go from Winter straight into Summer and wanted a “normal” Spring . . . #MissionAccomplished,” the weather service said in a tweet. “The normal average temperature for Spring (Mar-May) in KC is 54.5 degrees.”
This spring’s average temperature was 54.5 degrees.
“Exactly average!” the weather service said. “#NailedIt.”
