Memorial Day weekend won’t be a washout, but scattered showers, storms are possible
Cloudy skies may give way to some sunshine late Wednesday afternoon as temperatures climb to around 70 degrees, according to FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“It’s going to be another kind of gray day, but we will start to see a little sunshine late in the afternoon,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.
There may be some mist and drizzle in the metro area, she said. The threat of rain, however, will stay primarily to the east of the metro.
For Memorial Day weekend, highs are expected to climb into the 80s, but scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible Friday through Monday, she said.
“It will not be a total washout,” Ritter said.
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill said the chances for showers and thunderstorms increase late Thursday into Friday. On-and-off showers and storms are likely to continue through Memorial Day.
Although severe weather isn’t expected at this time, a few strong storms may develop across southeastern Kansas and southwestern Missouri Friday evening, the weather service said. The main threat from those storms will be hail and wind.
