Storms return to Kansas City bringing widespread rain; frost likely Saturday morning
Rain and thunderstorms will return to the Kansas City area early Thursday afternoon, said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
Initially, the rain will be light, said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. The warmest part of the day will be around lunch time as highs reach the low 60s before temperatures begin falling.
“As we head through the afternoon and evening, rain becomes pretty widespread and it lingers into this evening’s forecast waiting on a cold front to approach,” Ritter said. “As that front arrives later this evening and overnight into tomorrow morning, it’s going to bring with it some much cooler conditions.”
Highs on Friday will top out only in the upper 50s. The typical high for this time of year in Kansas City is in the low 70s, Ritter said.
“And then we’re still watching for that potential frost Saturday morning,” Ritter said.
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill said no severe weather is expected with any thunderstorms that develop Thursday.
Those using temporary outdoor structures, including tents for medical purposes, should be aware that lightning is possible Thursday afternoon into the evening for parts of eastern Kansas and west-central Missouri, including the Kansas City metro area, Thursday afternoon into the evening.
Tents offer no protection from lightning and should be evacuated in advance of, during and 30 minutes after thunderstorms.
