Chance for thunderstorms overnight in Kansas City area. Hail may be biggest threat
Another round of thunderstorms is expected overnight in the Kansas City area with the possibility of hail and wind over 60 mph, according to FOX4 meteorologist Garry Frank.
Storms are expected to develop late Friday night and continue into the early-morning hours Saturday. The entire metro is under a slight risk for severe weather.
Hail appears to be the biggest threat with these storms, Frank said in a weather update to The Star. The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill was estimating quarter- to golf ball-sized hail in its latest situation report.
Damaging winds and flash flooding are also possible.
There is “a smaller chance for a very brief tornado,” Frank said.
He said the storms will develop on a similar timeline as they did late Thursday night and early Friday morning, but it’s “not as widespread, so some of you may miss out on this completely.”
Saturday’s forecast calls for temperatures near 70 degrees. Temperatures are expected to drop as the storm system moves out of the region.
