Severe weather threat will hit Kansas City region Friday night into Saturday morning

As severe weather moves into the Kansas City area Friday night, the biggest concern is hail, according to FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.

Most of the day Friday should be clear of storms, said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. According to the National Weather Service, Friday has a high of 70 degrees but it will be cloudy most of the day. After 4 p.m., isolated showers and storms developing west of the city will move in.

The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.

“As that happens, our chances for rain and storms will start to go up,” Ritter said. “But I think our better chance is really going to be closer to 10, 11 o’clock tonight.”

Closer to midnight, Ritter said, there could be severe weather.

“Our biggest concern is once again large hail but we can’t rule out a quick spin up of a tornado,” Ritter said. “Those storms will linger into early tomorrow morning.”

As for the rest of the weekend, Ritter said, it looks a lot better. Once weather clears out on Saturday, temperatures should rise again to 70 degrees.

Temperatures should be in the 60s and the sky should be clear on Sunday.

The next chance of rain, according to the weather service, comes Monday night.
