Thunderstorms, hail possible early Friday in KC. Another chance for severe storms later
The first round of thunderstorms is expected to move into the Kansas City area late Thursday night into Friday morning with the possibility of large hail and heavy rain, according to FOX4 meteorologist Garry Frank.
Quarter- to golf ball-sized hail is possible, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill. Heavy rain may lead to some isolated flash flooding.
“As we head throughout Friday early morning, I think this is out of here by 3 or 4 o’clock, and we see an additional opportunity for Friday night into Saturday on a similar timeline,” Frank said in a weather update to The Star.
The second round of severe weather could bring quarter-sized or half dollar-sized hail, winds over 60 mph and torrential rain. An isolated tornado is possible in the evening hours, according to the weather service.
“I do expect that we could see some hail into the overnight hours. If nothing else, some pretty good thunderstorms that may wake you up in the middle of the night,” Frank said.
