Highs to reach near 70 in Kansas City, but rain and thunderstorms coming this weekend
The weather will be nuisance-free in the Kansas City area Wednesday, but thunderstorms, some possibly strong, will kick off the weekend, said to FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“Later on today we will get the fog out of here and we will actually see our temperatures closer to 70 degrees this afternoon,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. “No nuisance weather in our forecast today, or for tomorrow for that matter.”
Heading into the weekend, however, rain and thunderstorms are likely, she said.
“Some of these could be on the strong side, especially Friday evening, so we are going to watch that very closely,” Ritter said. “The back half of the weekend looks a lot nicer though.”
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
The start of next week, especially on Monday, will give Kansas City another taste of spring, she said.
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill said there is a possibility of strong storms Thursday night into Friday morning. The areas that face the greatest threat of the stronger storms, however, are south of Kansas City.
Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible again on Friday night with the main threat being large hail and strong winds, according to the weather service.
