‘Nuisance weather’ returns to Kansas City this weekend, with snow north of metro

While sunshine is expected following Thursday morning’s storms, the rain will be back, FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter said.

The greatest chance of rain Thursday will be during the morning, said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.

“After we start the day with some rain and thunderstorms,” Ritter said, “we should dry out during the afternoon and eventually see our numbers popping back up into the 60s with a little bit of sunshine expected late in the day.”

Kansas Citians should expect heavy downpours and lightning Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Those in central Missouri should expect 60 mph winds and possible hail that could be 1 inch to 1 1/4 inch thick.

The weather service said temperatures could reach up to 64 degrees on Thursday. Over the next three days, high temperatures will drop into the 50s, then 40s. Low temperatures will hover above freezing.

Saturday, the rain is back.

“After we get this system out of here, nuisance weather returns on Saturday,” Ritter said.

How we did this story

The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.

Temperatures on Saturday could reach up to 41 degrees and drop to 34 degrees. Rain, according to the weather service, is expected mostly before 1 p.m.

“We’re going to have some widespread impacts with a raw, cold day expected,” Ritter said. “Rain and snow (are) expected for areas north of I-70, especially during the early part of Saturday.”
