Enjoy the sunshine while you can. Next week, Kansas City’s forecast is full of rain

Friday temperatures will be as cool as it gets for the next week despite the cloud cover and rain moving into the region, FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith said.

Temperatures hit 29 degrees by 7 a.m. Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service. It was the first time the area’s temperatures dropped below freezing this March.

Normally, the weather service said, temperatures range from 28 to 30 degrees during the first week of March.

Over the weekend, temperatures will be in the middle to upper 60s, said Bogowith, who provides weather updates to The Star.

On Sunday, additional cloud cover will start building in.

“That’s in advance of our next weather system that will bring us widespread rain showers,” Bogowith said.

The downpour will last most of the day.

How we did this story

The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.

“(It will) kick things off for Monday morning’s commute, continuing to carry over into the lunch hour ... and still lingering around for part of the evening commute,” Bogowith said, “especially for folks on the Missouri side.”

That rain, she said, is the beginning of an active weather pattern that will last through the middle of next week.

“Tuesday looks to be the only dry day we will see,” Bogowith said.
