Warm but windy weather ahead in Kansas City. ‘Fire weather watch’ issued in area
Warm but windy days are ahead in the Kansas City area, and the next chance for precipitation won’t be until Sunday night, according to FOX4 meteorologist Joe Lauria.
Thursday’s forecast calls for temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees, but, Lauria says, wind gusts may reach 30 to 35 mph.
The winds, combined with the low humidity and dry conditions, has led to the National Weather Service issuing a “fire weather watch” in the Kansas City area. The watch will be in effect from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday. Due to the weather conditions, any fires that break out will likely spread rapidly, the weather service warned.
“The better news is that as we head toward the weekend, our temperatures are going to continue to warm up,” Lauria said in a weather update to The Star. “I think we’re going to be in the 60s on Saturday and Sunday, and we’re going to have winds to match that.”
“It’ll be blustery, but by the same token it’ll be nice and warm.”
The next chance for rain will be Sunday night into Monday morning.
