Wintry mix and slushy snow likely Wednesday before Arctic blast hits Kansas City
A wicked combination of snow and rain is expected to greet rush hour traffic on Wednesday, creating a wet, slushy mess before an Arctic blast moves into the Kansas City area in the evening, according to FOX4 meteorologist Joe Lauria.
Temperatures overnight and into Wednesday will continue to hover around the 30s. At daybreak and morning rush hour, snowfall will be on the light side.
“I think it will be falling but melting on the pavement,” said Lauria, who provides a weather update to The Star. “So that will hopefully keep the rush hour roads in pretty good shape.”
Lauria added that the snow might pick up with a “slushy accumulation before lunchtime.”
The wintry mix could change over to a brief period of rain before a dramatic drop in temperatures.
Kansas City should see between 1-3 inches of snow accumulation. Areas towards the east of Kansas City could receive up to 4 inches.
The Arctic front will drop high temperatures into the teens on Thursday after they dip to around 6 degrees in the morning. On Friday, the predicted high will be about 30 after a low near 4.
The weather is expected to improve by the weekend.
“We could be in the 50s as early as Saturday,” Lauria said.
