On Super Bowl Sunday, KC’s afternoon temps ‘could be within 5 degrees’ of Miami’s

Temperatures will be in the 30s and the skies will be cloudy for the next day or so, but warmer days and sunshine are ahead this weekend in the Kansas City area in time for Super Bowl Sunday, according to FOX4 meteorologist Joe Lauria.

Thursday’s forecast calls for temperatures around 35 degrees and mostly cloudy skies. Friday’s temperatures are expected to be around 37.

“After a cool Friday, much warmer air is building out west,” Lauria said in a weather update to The Star. “That warmer air spreads our way on Saturday.”

Temperatures on Saturday may be somewhere between 45 and close to 50 degrees by the afternoon.

For those in Miami for Super Bowl Sunday, temperatures will be around 70.

Not in Miami to watch the Chiefs take on the 49ers? While many may be missing out on seeing the game in sunny Florida, it appears fans won’t be missing out on the heat. Kansas City’s afternoon temperatures “could be within 5 degrees of what’s happening in Miami” on Sunday as the “core of the warmth” moves on top of Kansas City, Lauria said. Temperatures will be “well above seasonally normal” by then, as the National Weather Service pointed out on Twitter.

“We’ll be in the 50s at lunch; they (Miami) will be close to 70,” Lauria said. “But notice how we pop up into the mid to upper 60s during the afternoon. They (Miami) hold around 70 degrees.”

The warmer air will stick around for another day on Monday before much colder air spills into the Kansas City area on Tuesday. The colder air “could be a recipe for more wintry weather early next week,” Lauria added.
