Meteorologists watching for possible snow storm Saturday in Kansas City area

Temperatures in the Kansas City area are expected to go up to near 60 before they begin to plummet at the start of the weekend, when we may see some ice and snow, according to FOX4 meteorologist Joe Lauria.

Thursday’s forecast calls for cloudy skies, windy conditions and a high temperature of 59. There is a chance of light rain.

More rain is expected to move through Friday morning. The rainfall will become more steady and heavy going into the afternoon and evening hours, Lauria said. Colder air will start to set in Friday night, and the rain may transition to sleet or freezing rain early Saturday, creating icy conditions. A snow storm in the Kansas City area could follow.

“The second part of the storm, and this is the questionable part of things, this is going to move in potentially sometime Saturday morning into Saturday afternoon, and possibly a significant snow storm could unfold before our eyes right here in Kansas City or somewhere very close to Kansas City,” Lauria said. “That would be associated with wind; cold temperatures; that light, fluffy, powdery snow that tends to blow around quite a bit.”

Meteorologists aren’t yet certain how much snow we could get but said the key time frame to watch for is late Friday night into Saturday morning.

Sunday is expected to be sunny but temperatures may be in the low 30s.
