Wintry mix of precipitation, snow possible this weekend in the Kansas City area
The Kansas City area may see a wintry mix of precipitation followed by snow at the start of the weekend, according to FOX4 meteorologist Joe Lauria.
Before temperatures are expected to plummet, the area will continue to have above-average temperatures Wednesday and Thursday.
Then, on Friday, the forecast calls for rain, mostly in the afternoon as temperatures drop. Heading toward the evening hours Friday, Lauria said the freeze line will start to come into Kansas City and the area may see “a brief period of some wintry weather ... maybe some sleet, maybe some freezing rain that could create some slick conditions.”
“Another part of this storm system could create snow here on Saturday,” Lauria said. “That’s still iffy depending on the track of the storm, but it’s not out of the question that we have ourselves a little bit of a snow storm here on Saturday.”
Currently, the forecast calls for sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 30s on Sunday. But if there’s snow on the ground, Lauria said Kansas Citians should expect colder weather conditions.
