Kansas City gets cold weather Monday, but a better forecast for New Year’s
The next-to-last day of 2019 will be cold and windy in the Kansas City area, according to FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“It’s going to be a cold, blustery and kind of wintry day,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.
“We are expecting our numbers to stay in the 30s — mid-30s is as good as it is going to get this afternoon,” Ritter said. “There may be a few flurries flying around as well and it’s going to stay very windy.”
That’s the bad news, she said.
The good news is that a warm up is coming on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, which will be sunny with temperatures in the low 50s, Ritter said.
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
The New Year will start with temperatures well above normal. The average high for this time of year in Kansas City is the upper 30s.
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill said on Twitter that while Monday won’t be the best weather-wise, things are looking up for celebrations on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The next weather system is expected to move into the Kansas City area Thursday and Friday, according to FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith.
“At first at the onset, we will have some chances for rain moving in with a transition to a light snow,” she said.
“As we close things out on Friday, temperatures are going to go tumbling into the day, down into the the 30s. It is going to be very cold, but we bring back sunshine by the end of the weekend with highs returning to the middle 40s.”
