‘Urgent pavement repairs’ create commuting headache in south Kansas City
Urgent road repairs are creating a large backup for commuters in the Kansas City area on Monday.
Crews have closed two lanes on westbound Interstate 470 to make “urgent pavement repairs,” the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Kansas City District announced. The lane closures leave the busy highway with only one lane open.
The lanes of the highway are scheduled to be closed from 6 a.m. until about 10 a.m. Monday affects the stretch of the highway between Raytown Road and Blue Ridge Boulevard.
Transportation officials announced the closure in a press release shortly after midnight on Monday.
The closure comes after a resurfacing project of I-470 between Raytown Road and Hickman Mills Drive ended at 6 a.m.
Transportation officials urged drivers to slow down and pay attention while driving through the work zone. Drivers were also advised to take alternative routes if possible.
