Missouri man gets 7 years in prison for killing son
BOWLING GREEN, Mo. – A suburban St. Louis man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for fatally shooting his son in a rural area of northeast Missouri.
The Quincy (Illinois) Herald-Whig reports that 46-year-old Michael Lee Phillips was sentenced Friday. He had pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the August shooting death of his 22-year-old son, Jeff Chisholm, in a rural area of Pike County.
The shooting happened after Chisholm was involved in an argument with several people, including relatives, eventually resulting in a fight between father and son.
Phillips was originally charged with second-degree murder before pleading guilty to the lesser crime.
