Missouri town refuses to swear in indicted man as marshal

DIXON, Mo. – Leaders of a small Missouri town have refused to swear in a marshal who was re-elected to the law enforcement job after he was indicted on 10 felony and five misdemeanor charges.

The city council’s decision Monday night came hours after Pulaski County Prosecutor Kevin Hillman sued to keep 33-year-old Mike Plummer from taking office.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that the indictment returned in October included allegations that Plummer manipulated evidence related to the blood alcohol content of suspected drunken drivers.

His attorney, James Thomas, says the case is “politically motivated.”

Plummer was placed on paid leave from his job in Dixon after his peace officer license was suspended in January.

While awaiting trial next month, residents of Dixon re-elected him.

Hillman says Plummer can’t serve without the license.

Dixon is about 50 miles south of Jefferson City.
