Shoplifting suspect fires gun inside Springfield Wal-Mart

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Police say a man fired a gun inside a south Springfield Wal-Mart Supercenter as officers confronted multiple people suspected of shoplifting.

Lt. Fred Beck says a chase took place inside the store around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. One of the suspects fired one round from a handgun as he fled.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that no one was injured in the incident. The store was evacuated and closed for several hours while police and store employees guarded the main entrances.

The person said to have fired the shot had not been found. Beck says two other people were in police custody.
