CDC: St. Louis nation’s top city for STDs

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis health officials say a CDC report listing St. Louis as the top city for one sexually transmitted disease and second for another is “meaningless.”

KSDK-TV reported Wednesday that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention put out a report listing St. Louis as the city with the highest rate of chlamydia infection, and second for gonorrhea.

But St. Louis health officials note that St. Louis and Baltimore are unique as cities that don’t fall within a county, so comparing statistics with other cities is invalid.

Health officials say that if St. Louis County is included, the ranking for St. Louis would be 15th for chlamydia and 13th for gonorrhea.
