Missouri boy, 13, taken into custody in shooting death of girl, 12

JOPLIN, Mo. – Authorities say a 13-year-old boy has been taken into custody in southwest Missouri in the shooting death of a 12-year-old girl.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department told The Joplin Globe the shooting occurred in the front yard of a home Thursday evening. The department says when officers arrived they tried to resuscitate the victim, who was later pronounced dead.

Officers say the 13-year-old was found on the property a short while later and taken into custody without incident and is being held by juvenile authorities.

It was unclear Friday if any charges have been filed.
