Man pleads guilty in Missouri box cutter attack

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – An Arkansas man has pleaded guilty to slashing his colleague with a box cutter outside of a Cape Girardeau hotel.

The Southeast Missourian reports 40-year-old Robert Brewer of Jonesboro, Arkansas, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault.

Police say the Arkansas-based roofing company employees were returning from a club in August when they got into a fight. They say the victim suffered cuts up to 1 inch deep on his neck, face, shoulder and thigh.

Brewer tells police he was acting in self-defense after the other man put him in a choke hold. Police say the claim is inconsistent with the victim’s injuries.

Sentencing is scheduled for December.
