Headphones suspected in Missouri train-pedestrian fatality

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Police in St. Joseph say a pedestrian who died after being struck by a train may have been wearing headphones.

The victim in Saturday afternoon’s accident has been identified as 29-year-old Romino Buruta, who was crossing railroad tracks on his way home from work at Triumph Foods.

Police Detective Frank Till tells the St. Joseph News-Press the train’s engineer reported seeing a man who appeared to be wearing headphones or earbuds.

The engineer said he sounded the locomotive’s horn several times but the pedestrian continued to walk across the tracks.

The death remains under investigation while authorities wait to see video from the train’s camera.
