A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper was killed in a traffic accident Friday morning in Audrain County, according to the patrol.

James M. Bava died in a one-vehicle accident on Missouri Route FF about 8:30 a.m. after sending a radio message to headquarters that he had seen a motorcyclist commit a traffic infraction. Patrol operators were not able to reach him by radio again.

The motorcyclist was not found, and the patrol said the accident was under investigation. Bava is survived by his parents, two sisters, a brother and a half sister.
