Woman home sick for a week leaves the house — and becomes jackpot lottery winner

Home sick for a week, a Missouri woman finally left her house to get some fresh air.

She didn’t have any plans or anything she needed to do, but the Cooper County woman would later say she simply needed “to get out of the house.”

It’s a good thing she did. Her outing included her becoming a jackpot lottery winner.

She was with a friend purchasing a soda at a Boonville convenience store when she decided to buy a $5 Triple Cash Crossword ticket.

The crossword-style lottery game uncovered a $100,000 jackpot, one of six top prizes the scratch-off offers.

“I didn’t believe it, not at all!” she told lottery officials in an Oct. 3 news release. “I drove to another store and went in to have it checked.”

The store clerk at her next stop was equally stunned.

“I think she about fell down!” the winner said.

Boonville is about a 105-mile drive southeast from Kansas City.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
