19-year-old dies at Lake of the Ozarks, its fourth drowning in August
A Glenwood, Illinois, man drowned over the weekend at Lake of the Ozarks, marking the fourth drowning at the lake in August.
The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. Saturday at Grand Glaize Beach, one of the lake’s public beaches, according to a drowning incident report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The unnamed 19-year-old entered the water by “unknown means,” and never resurfaced, according to the report. He was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m.
The man’s death marks the fourth drowning at Lake of the Ozarks in August.
On Aug. 13, a 2-year-old girl was found face-up in the lake after wandering away from her Gravois Mills, Missouri, home, according to an incident report from the MSHP. She was pronounced dead at an area hospital at 12:36 p.m.
Another incident report states that on Aug. 17, a 3-year-old boy from Tuscumbia, Missouri, died after wandering off the back of an anchored boat near the 4.8 mile marker of Glaize Arm. He did not resurface.
On Aug. 23, a 52-year-old man from Kansas City, Missouri, fell off a dock near the 38 mile marker of Fan Hollow Cove and never resurfaced, according to a drowning incident report from the MSHP. He was declared dead at the scene around 4:15 a.m.
Earlier in the month, on Aug. 19, a man died at a St. Louis-area hospital after he was diagnosed with Naegleria fowleri, a rare and deadly microscopic amoeba on Aug. 13.
Preliminary information indicated the man had been water skiing at the Lake of the Ozarks days before becoming ill.
