A man pulled a machete out of his pants while outside liquor store and killed a man, Missouri police said.

Bryan Washington was seen on security footage approaching a person in Ferguson on June 12, then arming himself with a machete and charging at the man, police said in a criminal complaint.

The man retreated backward as Washington swung the blade at him, the complaint said.

The victim fell backward, according to police, and Washington stabbed him in the heart.

The man was taken to the hospital where he died, the complaint said. He was identified as Robert E. Lewis.

Washington was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He’s held in jail on a $1 million bond.

His attorney information was not listed.

Washington was scheduled to appear in court the morning of June 18.

Ferguson is about a 10-mile drive northwest from downtown St. Louis.
