74-year-old kidnapped from casino garage is forced to drive to ATM, MO cops say
A 74-year-old woman was kidnapped from the parking garage of a Missouri casino, then robbed after being forced to drive to an ATM, authorities say.
The incident began April 2 at Hollywood Casino in Maryland Heights and led to the arrest of 62-year-old Darryl Saddler, the St. Charles Police Department said in a news release.
The woman did not know Saddler, who approached her vehicle and tapped on her window with a gun, according to a probable cause statement.
“Saddler threatened the victim, telling her he would kill her and instructed her to let him in the vehicle,” police said. “Saddler, sitting behind the victim, instructed her to drive to an ATM and give him money.”
She drove to a QuikTrip convenience store in St. Charles, where she was forced to withdraw money, according to the court documents.
Police said the woman withdrew $500, and the cash was stolen by Saddler. Instead of following Saddler back to her vehicle, she refused to leave the store.
Saddler stole the woman’s car, which was “quickly” located by officers without anyone inside it, police said in a news release. Saddler was taken into custody within an hour of the alleged incident.
He admitted to stealing the woman’s money and car, also telling authorities he was a convicted felon, according the probable cause statement.
Saddler was charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm and stealing a motor vehicle, police said.
St. Charles and Maryland Heights are northwest suburbs of St. Louis.
