A Missouri man is now much richer after listening to his son.

On his son’s recommendation, the man purchased a $5 ticket for a Scratchers lottery game called “Pink Panther Diamond Tripler” at the St. Joseph Hy-Vee, 201 N. Belt Highway. After scratching the ticket, he saw he won the top prize.

The amount? $100,000, according to a Missouri Lottery press release.

“My son had won on this ticket and told me I should try one,” the winner told the lottery. “I couldn’t believe it. I was shaking when I saw all the zeros.”

He said he plans to use the winnings to buy a new car and possibly fix up an older car he owns.

Players of the $5 “Pink Panther Diamond Tripler” game have won over $5.2 million in prizes since the game was released in August, according to the Missouri Lottery. Over $5.7 million in prize money has yet to be claimed, including an additional $100,000 prize and two $20,000 prizes.

Missouri Lottery players in Buchanan County won more than $15.6 million in prizes, retailers received more than $1.5 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $5.5 million went to education programs in the county in 2024, the Missouri lottery says.
