A father and his 7-year-old daughter were killed in a boating crash that also seriously injured four members of their family, Missouri authorities say.

Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers say the family of six and one other passenger were boating on the Gasconade River on Sept. 1 when the boat struck a root. It caused the boat to crash into a rock bluff, troopers said.

Reven Newbound, the 30-year-old boat operator and father of four, was pronounced dead at the scene, highway patrol said. A 7-year-old girl also died.

According to a GoFundMe, four other members of the Newbound family were hospitalized with serious injuries. Reven Newbound’s wife, Samantha Newbound, was injured along with their other children, ages 0, 4 and 9.

“While they are expected to make a full recovery, the journey ahead will be long and challenging,” the organizer of the GoFundMe said.

The Newbounds, from Owensville, bought a home in August.

Loved ones said Reven Newbound spent his free time as a demolition derby driver and was featured on the History Channel series “American Wreckers.”

“You were a great dad, husband and friend. U will always be missed by everyone,” Chad Faulkner said in a Facebook post. “While you may be gone we will ALL be here to help Samantha Newbound get through this. This town has a reputation for rallying for our own, it’s not gonna stop now.”

Owensville is about an 80-mile drive southwest from St. Louis.
