A Missouri man drowned when his lawnmower overturned and pinned him underwater Friday, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

Around 2:40 p.m. Friday, Brent Carroll, 20, of Warrensburg was mowing at the highest point of an embankment around a private property’s pond. According to an MSHP incident report, the riding mower lost traction and began sliding sideways down the hill toward the pond, located in rural Henry County.

The mower’s tire dug into the ground at the edge of the pond and turned over, pinning Carroll underwater, the report said.

Carrol was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics just before 4 p.m. His body was transported to a funeral home.

Henry County is about an hour and a half south of Kansas City.
