More than a month after a 16-year-old boy died after being found shot in the head, his father has been arrested, Missouri authorities say.

Carl Walker Jr., 51, has been charged with second-degree murder following the Jan. 24 fatal shooting of his teenage son, the St. Louis County Police Department announced Wednesday, March 6.

Walker and his son, Isaiah Walker, were “arguing over personal matters” Jan. 24 and left together in the dad’s vehicle, police said. Shortly after, they were seen walking back toward their home.

Around that time, police said Walker shot his son in the head.

The boy was found shot in the street, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, according to police. He died Jan. 27.

Isaiah was described in a GoFundMe as a “young man who loved football and playing video games.”

“Isaiah enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, he was especially close to his sister Sharday and his cousin Kamara,” according to a GoFundMe. “Many people felt like he was their child.”

A police investigation revealed Walker hid a .45 caliber handgun magazine in the trash along with various clothing items. A .45 caliber shell casing was found at the scene, police said.

He eventually admitted to shooting and killing his son, police said. Walker is a convicted felon who is not allowed to possess a firearm.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Walker with second-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to a news release. He was jailed on a $500,000 cash bond.
