Four youths briefly escape from Cass County detention center
Four youths escaped from a Cass County juvenile detention facility Tuesday night, allegedly assaulting staff and making a getaway in a stolen car.
All four were soon recaptured, with one caught on foot nearby and three others picked up after apparently crashing a car in Bates County, to the south.
The escape was reported about 7:30 p.m., according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, after four juvenile inmates assaulted staff, escaped and fled in a vehicle belonging to a detention center employee.
One escapee was caught on foot about 10 minutes later by Harrisonville police.
The other three were captured about an hour later in Bates County, where the stolen vehicle had been crashed. The youths were taken into custody by Bates County sheriff’s deputies and the Missouri Highway Patrol. All four juveniles were in custody again Tuesday night.
No other details of the incident were immediately available. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office referred all questions to juvenile justice authorities in Cass County.
