‘Wheelchair bandits’ fake a fall so partner can steal from Missouri store, video shows

One man pushed the wheelchair. An accomplice sat in the wheelchair. A third rolled a cart with a big white box in it.

Then, as the trio got near the exit of a Missouri Sam’s Club, the person in the wheelchair fell onto the floor, surveillance video shows. The video — titled “Wheelchair Bandits” — was posted to Facebook by the Chesterfield Police Department.

Three bystanders rushed to help the person who abruptly fell onto the wholesale store’s floor. Police said they do not believe the person in the wheelchair is actually handicapped.

“In the ensuing distraction, the 3rd subject made good on his escape,” the police department said on Facebook.

As he casually strolled out of the store, he pushed a cart with what appears to be a white box, the video shows.

If you can identify the bandits, police ask that you call 636-537-3000. They said the crime happened at about 3 p.m. on Oct. 20.
