Missouri woman drowns on float trip

GALENA, Mo. – A southwest Missouri woman drowned while on a float trip on Mother’s Day.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 61-year-old Angela Fire of Hollister drowned Sunday on the James River when her canoe hit a tree and overturned.

She became tangled in the tree roots and could not escape.

The patrol says the accident happened on the river near Galena, about 40 miles southwest of Springfield.
