Springfield man charged in fatal scooter accident
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A Springfield man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after a woman died when a motor scooter she was riding on was hit by a pickup truck.
Authorities say 53-year-old Jeffrey Anderson was driving drunk in January and was using a hand-held flashlight as a headlight as he drove the scooter, which had no working lights. It was hit by the truck at night on a Springfield street.
A passenger on the scooter, 54-year-old Brenda Roy, was injured during the crash and died later at a hospital.
Anderson was charged Wednesday with involuntary manslaughter and driving without a license.
The Springfield News-Leader reports Anderson had a 0.194 percent blood alcohol content at the time of the accident.
