Four killed in head-on crash near Perry, Kansas
PERRY, Kan. – Four people were killed when two vehicles collided head-on in eastern Kansas.
The Lawrence Journal-World reports the crash occurred Sunday afternoon on U.S. Highway 24 near Perry.
Casey Quigley, fire chief of Perry and Kentucky Township in Jefferson County, said the four people killed were in a pickup and SUV that collided head-on. He says two other people were injured.
The Journal-World reports the victims were three adults and a baby.
The driver of the pickup was identified as Ronald D. Heston, 56, of Oskaloosa.
In the minivan, three members of a Basehor family of five – Travis D. Askew, 35; Ashley A. Askew, 27; and Haley R. Askew, 6 months — were killed. Two other children in the minivan are in critical condition in a Topeka hospital.
Quigley said one of the vehicles was on fire when emergency responders arrived.
