Tractor-trailer driver arrested in fiery Kansas I-70 crash

SALINA, Kan. – A tractor-trailer driver from Texas is charged in Kansas in a fiery Interstate 70 crash that killed the driver of another rig in western Kansas.

Thomas County court documents say Fednor Duclona, 45, of Fort Worth, Texas, attempted a U-turn on the interstate on the same day as the January crash that killed 52-year-old Rodney A. Hongsermeier, of North Platte, Nebraska.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said at the time that a westbound truck driven by Duclona was struck by Hongsermeier’s truck, which also was headed west. Both vehicles caught fire and came to rest in the middle of the road, according to the patrol report.

Firefighters from Colby, Kansas, fought the truck blaze for about three hours.

Duclona faces charges that include vehicular homicide and reckless driving. He was released Wednesday from the Johnson County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
