Kansas woman faces felony charge after shooting boyfriend in the groin
A woman accused of firing at her boyfriend’s groin is facing a felony charge.
Christina M. Martinez appeared in Sedgwick County District Court on Wednesday afternoon after prosecutors charged her with one count of aggravated battery. The count alleges the 44-year-old intentionally caused “great bodily harm or disfigurement” during the Sept. 30 shooting of a man at a house in the 1100 block of South Emporia.
Wichita police earlier this week said Martinez vowed to get a gun after she found her 44-year-old boyfriend having sex with another woman at the house early Tuesday. She retrieved the weapon and returned to the address, then allegedly shot her boyfriend once in the groin while he sat in a lawn chair in the front yard talking with two other men.
Police arrested her moments later at Lincoln and McLean.
Martinez was being held in Sedgwick County Jail on Wednesday in lieu of $50,000 bond in the aggravated battery case, and on $25,000 for a probation violation.
She is due back in court Oct. 16 for a preliminary hearing, court records show.
Police said Tuesday the boyfriend had been hospitalized with serious injuries. They were not life threatening.
